The Eagle Totem is a multi-medium totem of protection. Its role is to guard the household by warding away evil spirits and restoring good vibes. Drawing inspiration from the Bulgarian “Kuker” folklore, the sculpture combines various traditional elements such as bells, beads and animal parts along with modern elements inspired by the World Culture of cannabis. The appropriation of empty packs of Backwoods as feathers sheds lights on the world cannabis culture, by acting as placeholders for memories, experiences and friendships built around the act of rolling and smoking of the sacred herbs. The Eagle Totem itself in many ways represents the power and majesty behind this mentality, soaring because of the community and knowledge that literally gave it its wings.
